Melikgazi Municipality is a part of the Greater Municipality of Kayseri, one of the largest cities in Turkey. Kayseri is famous for industry, food, and winter tourism and was once the capital city of theSelcuk civilization. Worth visiting.
We have carried out a project with GEODI and ArcGIS to reach the archive from within ArcGIS. The project was challenging because the archive contained no direct spatial information, and the content was
mostly unstructured data, such as PDF, TIFF, and similar.
With GEODI, we scan and classify not only the 17 million documents and their attribute datas in our archive but also all the documents in our management information system using their attribute data in
the database and the classified data in the unit folders. During classification, we use our institution- specific dictionary for categorization.
We sought a solution to automate this task and found GEODI. GEODI's advanced spatial and data discovery features wer e key to the project's success. GEODI indexed all of them and extracted crucial spatial information, Land Parcel IDs, and addresses from the archived documents. Some of them needed OCR, and GEODI also OCRed them.
We now have a common key between ArcGIS and Archive, and we have developed an ArcGIS custom widget that connects to GEODI. We use the GEODI API and LDAP authorization level to establish this
connection.
An ArcGIS user now clicks a parcel and queries related documents through a widget, which gets the results from GEODI. Users can also search for related land parcels using the GEODI search feature.
We have many users of the system throughout the municipality. They are happy because they used to use multi software programs (ArcGIS, Archive, MIS, Task Managment, Personel Archive .vb ) to get
meaningful information; they now use a single program.
I want to thank the DECE teams for their support during this project. They helped us design and use API documentation during the implementation phase.
We thank Mr Muzaffer Elgün for the project and for sharing his thoughts for the GEODI.
